Today I was chasing the perfect spot. I started out, driving to Highway 68 looking for the lupines in the wildflowers the hillside was beautiful, but no wildflowers. the fog was along the coast, so I thought well maybe I’ll try Big Sur so I drove down to Big Sur hoping the fog wasn’t there, but it was foggy almost white out. But decided that I’m going to paint Plein today so I went back down to Carmel scenic drive and parked a couple times got out and looked and decided to go down the road more. I ended up back in my home in Carmel grab some lunch. I decided I’m going to paint Plein air today so I went back down to Carmel and parked and found a happy place to paint. I know a lot of artists can understand trying to find that location sometimes it’s best to just stop and stay still long enough to see the beauty wherever you are 😅 not always greener on the other side of the fence🤣
I finally got out today to paint Plein Air we had so much rain. Flowers are out, The pink ice plant is not out yet, but the yellow mustard blooming, and the pride Madera in full bloom. I have a hard time painting small today. I did 45 wide by 39. I had to work fast to work on such a large canvas. Put finishing color notes in my studio.
Another layer of paint… on both paintings. I start very fast but now I slow down putting color notes and working on my shapes. Doing figure work is not as forgiving as trees. But I am loving doing this 😅 Back at it tomorrow… hoping to paint Plein air in the morning the sun is forecast to be out all day tomorrow before the rain returns on Friday.
